Massive, that’s the word that comes to mind when you hear Weekend at Waikiki.
Massive rolling thunder. Like a train, speedily on its way through Musical Adventureland. The band’s popularity was not only restricted to Holland. They have performed in Germany, Poland and Russia. They were the first European band to play in places like Astrakan, Koeybisjev, Saratov and Oeljanov. The band had its own studio. They were not only working for themselves, but they also produced records for other bands, like for instance Top Hole act Dandruff!! On the Casa Grande cd you will find the best Weekend At Waikiki songs, compiled from the first three vinyl albums. Sputnik, their latest album was recorded for VIA/Top Hole: heavy, hard, daring & dynamic, not only gaining recognition in Holland, but also in the USA. Three tracks of this album were used for the soundtrack of ‘Zusje’, an international prize-winning movie. One of the members of WAW was Tom Holkenborg, the man behind Junkie XL (JXL) - currently having international success with his number one hit A Little Less Conversation - the Elvis Presley song, mix and renewed by JXL.
